“MICUS study shows potential for value creation of geo-data infrastructures – The key lies in satisfying specific demands of users”

The term “geo-data infrastructure” (GDI) is the buzz word par excellence in the geo-information industry: Many organisations, administrations and businesses have dedicated themselves to building such infrastructures; technical architectural models, standards and basal components are intensively discussed and developed in the circles of experts.

“It is still not clear for the majority, however, how a concrete benefit could be achieved with a GDI, and what value can be actually created for the user.”

The recent MCUS study answers this question and shows that a GDI can only be successful in the long run, if on its basis specific applications, and thus added value for the user is generated, and a willingness to pay is elicited. For this, various national and industry-specific examples are given, and key factors of success together with specific recommendations are deduced for the individual actors.
